A story of friendship, unrequited love, and family in a rural, mountain community. Secrecy, death, and the impact of war and infidelity are faced with trepidation and courage. It is a test that some will not survive. The heroine in the story, Sylvia Sumner, has lost her way in life. She is aided by her best friend and the story’s hero, Tucker Stewart. He shows her the only way to one’s best self and their rightful place in the world is to forgive. They have both held on to their imagined fathers, unwilling to accept the truth about the men they have idolized. In the end, Tucker learns this great lesson and is by Sylvia's side, lending her the strength to face her own father and set him free at last.
